I picked this painting up today for its purchaser and was struck by how much it meant to me. I painted this a little over a year after my separation and just after buying a house of my very own. I was influenced by Russian icons of priests holding miniature replicas of cathedrals. Playing off my name, Mary Hale, (Hale Mary) I am holding a miniature symbol of my house. Fortunately, its new home is one where I will visit on occasion.
